North Isles Nature Cruise

Details to be confirmed

Shetland Nature is proud to offer again its highly successful North Isles and Muckle Flugga Nature Cruise in collaboration with the Shetland Nature Festival and in association with the RSPB.

By chartering one of the comfortable Yell Sound Ferries, we allow guests the choice of travelling inboard in the comfortable and spacious saloon which offers panoramic window views or outboard on the upper deck, the perfect way to take in the spectacular scenery throughout the voyage.

Our route will take us north out of Yell Sound passed Fethaland and the Ramna Stacks up the rugged and wild west coastline of Yell and onwards to Unst and the spectacular seabird colonies of Hermaness where we will marvel at 100,000 seabirds including 50,000 Puffins and 17,000 breeding pairs of Gannets, Shetland’s largest collony. At this point we will be in sight of Muckle Flugga with its world famous lighthouse and Britain’s most northerly island Out Stack; weather permitting we will continue the journey across the north end of Unst and down its east coast passing Fetlar and the east coast of Yell. If the weather doesn’t permit this we will return via the west coast of Unst going through the Bluemull Sound a haven for wildlife including possible cetaceans then passing Fetlar and east coast of Yell.

Onboard our expert guides will ensure that this isn’t just a cruise of breathtaking scenery, but an exciting and educational day out as well. Regular commentaries and narration from our team will include Wildlife, Geology, Archaeology, and local history. Our guides will also be at hand interacting with and sharing knowledge amongst the guests throughout the voyage and constantly searching for seamamals and other interesting marine wildlife.
