“8-Star Wildlife Experience!”
Scheduled tour usually runs Thursdays
Enjoy Shetland’s only two four-star wildlife experiences – Shetland Nature Cruises and Tours and Seabirds-and-Seals – all in a single day! This unforgettable expedition takes you to see some of our most spectacular wildlife on land, at sea and beneath the waves.
In the morning we board the wildlife cruise vessel Dunter III in Lerwick and sail to Noss National Nature Reserve, one of the most exhilarating wildlife spectacles in Europe. Over 80,000 birds throng a mile of breathtaking sea cliffs up to 592’ (181m) high. The sights and sounds are simply awe-inspiring.
Our award-winning guides from Seabirds-and-Seals have pioneered the use of live underwater video cameras to display the astonishing variety of marine life in the kelp forest beneath the waves. This unique and fascinating experience has been likened to ‘scuba diving without getting cold and wet’.
In the afternoon we explore Shetland’s Central Mainland. On the moorland we’re looking for Mountain Hare and Red Grouse, with a good chance of Red-throated Diver, Whimbrel, Dunlin, Curlew and Redshank. Along the sheltered shoreline we search for the elusive Otters as they fish and play in the shallows.
We’ll pick you up in Lerwick at 9.30am for a 10am departure from Victoria Pier with m.v. Dunter III, returning at 1pm. After a picnic lunch in a sheltered spot on the waterfront, by 2pm the minibus will be taking us up the east coast of the central mainland, through Nesting to Vidlin, then back down the west side, through Kergord and Weisdale.
